Athens Plaka District
Arrival in Athens
Saturday night I didn’t sleep on the overnight flight from Sacramento to Newark. Then after the 10-hour layover I didn’t sleep on the plane Sunday night on the 10-hour flight from Newark to Athens. Noon Monday 11/3 I took the 30-minute train/metro ride from the airport to Syntagma station in the Plaka district. While parts of Athens are rough, this is a nice safe area with excellent walking and restaurants.
Apartment
My apartment was an easy 10-minute walk, clean and quiet.
Shopping
I shopped for water and snacks at Kampos organic store. The wine is “Limnio varietal that was the favorite of Aristotle.” Cool.
Dinner
Dinner with a view from the 7th floor restaurant Thea Terrace in Athens, Greece. Lots of History up on that rock. Meal was moussaka: roasted eggplant rolls stuffed with ground beef ragu in a rich potato cream.
Tomorrow, I have a tour up there. This is the start of my solo adventure for 2025.
